Aggression and separation anxiety could be signs of underlying issues needing counselling.
Protecting and nurturing the human-animal bond is an important responsibility. Unwanted behaviours can make daily life a struggle and impact this bond. It is important to properly identify these behaviours, so their underlying causes can be pinpointed. Only then can we proceed with the best course of action. At Bow River, our team of veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians can provide you with the tools you need to support your pet’s behavioural wellness and enrich the human-animal bond.
Our team members are here to assist you with any behavioural concerns you may have about your pet. At Bow River Veterinary Centre, we focus on positive reinforcement techniques to empower you and your pet’s daily routine.
The first appointment will involve a conversation between you and a veterinarian, where you will have the opportunity to explain the challenging behaviours you are experiencing. The veterinarian will then provide you with a thorough and customized plan to help tackle you and your pet’s specific needs.
Coverage will depend on every insurance company, as each one has its own set of policies and packages. We recommend that you reach out to different insurance providers for detailed information on their coverage of behavioural counselling
After the first meeting, you will gain a better understanding of what is needed to be done to support healthy behaviours. Pending on the needs of you and your pet, we may provide a referral to a local animal trainer or, when needed, to a veterinarian behaviouralist. We can also provide nutritional support – both in the form of diet and supplements. When appropriate, medications can be prescribed to support the training process or manage short term issues.
